Melchsee Frutt
For beauty alone Melchsee is worth a visit. A small ski village resting peacefully alongside a couple of lakes, amid stunning mountain scenery, it has everything for the outdoor enthusiast. In winter, downhill skiing, a couple of pleasant ski tours to Rotsandnollen and Graustock and a long cross country piste going round Tannensee and Engstlensee. In summer mountain biking, fishing, walking and a kilometre long crag full of middle grade rock climbs. It is at an altitude that means you can climb in just about the hottest of summers, and yet its south facing nature means climbing is possible so long as you can get to the crag through the snow. The climbing itself varies from short broken routes to some brilliant two pitch classics. The downside? On a summer Sunday it can be very popular for all the activities, but the climbing site itself is big enough to absorb the crowds.
