Lidernenhütte - Hagelstock, Spilauerstock and Rossstock
The Lidernenhütte is an excellent base for ski touring, with half a dozen summits easily accessible from the hut. Here three are described. One, two or all three summits are possible within one day from the top of the Käppeliberg gondola, with an overnight stay at the hut as an option. The tour offers fine views of central Switzerland, without any great difficulty or danger.
From Schwyz, follow the east side of Urnersee as far as the "chicken village" of Sisikon, and turn left here on a narrow road that leads up Riemenstadlertal to the small gondola at Käppeliberg. This will take you up to Lidernenhütte. There is a decent amount of parking at Käppeliberg, but the area is popular so it is worth arriving early.
From the top of the Käppeliberg gondola, head south to the hopefully frozen Spilauersee, and go round to the right climbing to the col between Hagelstock and Hundstock. Go to the summit and then descend either by the same route of more directly to the right hand side (south) of Spilauersee, for the shorter climb up to Spilauerstock. There are imposing views here of the descent south to Klausenpass and of the south west face of Rossstock. Ski back down to the right hand side (east) of Spilauersee, and from the northen end climb up the small valley to the col that will lead you towards Lidernen hütte. If energy permits, from the col there is now a 90 minute climb south east up to Rossstock. The last few metres are usually climbed on foot. Descend by the same route to reach Lidernen hütte.
