Arico
Tenerife's most popular crag. Bouldery routes up to 25m in length on igneous volcanic rock, that is similar to sandstone. It is situated in a beautiful area, the crags lying alongside a dried river gorge. This gives climbing on both sides, so there is always some shade. As well as many well bolted sport routes, the area has lots of excellent bouldering.
From Villa de Arico take the steep road north towards El Contador. After about 3 km there is a junction, turn right towards Ortiz and after another brief climb there is a car park next to a bridge over the dried barranco. From the car park you can either go "upstream" to Arico Arriba, or "downstream" to Arico Abajo. Walking time is from 2 to 15 minutes, depending on the sector.
