Tödi from Tierfehd
Tödi, or Piz Russein as it is also known, is the largest mountain in the Glarus Alps, and as such a prized target for ski tourers. It is usual to climb it in two days, but the super strong also manage it one.
Can be climbed from either Tierfehd in the North or from Trun in the South. Tierfehd is reached up the Linthal valley from Glarus.
A hard two day tour, the most demanding way to the summit of Tödi, or an even harder single day with 3000m of climbing. The route starts at Tierfehd which is reached up the Linth valley from Glarus. Follow the Sandbach to Hintersand, and then head south up Bifertenbach, to the SAC Fridolinshütte (2100m asl, WS- 30 to 34 deg after 1750m). Mortals will spend the night here, the strong will carry on to the Bifertenfirn (glacier), and crossing two difficult sections, follow this to the summit. Depending on conditions the last part must be climbed on foot. Descend by the same route.
