Fürstein
A pleasant tour from a very popular starting location. The climb to the top of Fürstein offers superb views, especially when the Hochnebel is present in the valleys.There are no real difficulties or dangers, and the tour makes for a very nice day out.
The tour starts at Langis.Follow the motorway from Luzern to Sarnen. Exit at Sarnen Nord and go round the town to take the road that leads to Stalden and Glaubenbergpass. Park at Langis, about 13km from Sarnen, at the large car park with a restaurant. Langis is a popular cross country and snowshoe centre . It is also possible to park a few hundred metres further up the road, snow conditions and crowds permitting.
It is possible to do the tour in either direction. For the anti clockwise route continue up Glabenbergpass to the restaurant at the top, and go left here. The route is well marked at the start and climbs up a track until at 1570m it is possible to follow the ridge on the left that leads to Rickhubel (1835m). From here continune in a north westerly direction, descending gently to reach the foot of the east ridge that leads to the summit of Fürstein. Ski down south from to the col between Fürstein and Chli Fürstein and then descend to a chapel that is next to Seewen See. Shortly afterwards put the fells back on and traverse round the lake on a track that climbs gently to an isolated gondola. Go through the little corridor and descend back to Glaubenbergpass. Many variations possible. For the (less popular) clockwise route, from the car park at Langis follow the road for 1km until it is possible to break left from the road along a track. Follow this to 1750m where it is possible to break north to reach the gondola above the lake. Descend to the chapel and then climb up to the col below the west ridge of Fürstein. Descend and climb up to Rickhubel (skins) and then descend to Glaubenbergpass either via the north or east (easier) face of Rickhubel.
