Glatten from Muototal
The smooth mountain with a beautiful powder descent. Glatten overlooks Klausenpass but is best reached on skis from the end of Muotothal. A relatively easy, gradual ascent is followed by a slightly steeper variation that lies in the shadow and in good conditions offers perfect powder.
From Schwyz follow the road into Muotothal and after reaching the village continue along the single track road that leads to the electricity works at its end by the Glattalp Seilbahn (open only in summer). Park here.
From the Seilbahn start initially on the left hand bank of the Muota and head up southwards through the woods. Steeply at first until you come out into the Alp after about 30 minutes. Continue up the broad ridge, getting gradually less steep, past a couple of alpine huts. Eventually the route steepens again. Follow a gully, now heading East, always keeping Chli Glatten on your left. Towards the end of the gully you pass the descent on your left that follows a steep line of cliffs . Keep going Eastwards, very gently to reach the smooth summit of Glatten. To descend, return the same way, turning right between the line of cliffs on your right and Chli Glatten on your left to come to a steep drop that leads in the shadows to eventually reach the edge of the woods, slightly east of where you started, and the Seilbahn.
